‘Hilary Soper is a painter and printmaker based in Slapton, South Devon.  Paintings have a fluid impressionistic style. Earlier times in higher education, TV research and wildlife cruising prevented a formal training in art, which left her free to explore, learn and experiment with a life-long interest in painting and printmaking.
Paintings in oils are usually liberated from reality, with vigorous brush and knife work and dynamic colour. The subjects are deeply rooted in sea and coast, home and garden, with many diversions to far-flung corners of the world – including Antarctica as artist aboard an expedition ship.
Pleasure in the craft of plate-making has led to original prints in different techniques; currently, monotype and etching (often in combination) are favourites.A founder member of Press Gang Printmakers, elected member of Plymouth Society of Artists since 2002. A regular exhibitor in the Southwest – solo and group shows – including Artmill Gallery in Plymouth and Dartmouth, St. Ives with the PSA, Harbour House in Kingsbridge and Salcombe Art Club, as well as placements and exhibitions at the bowie gallery.’
